One of the most important things to remember for a happy life is to smile. I never really thought about how important it was until I started reading scientific papers on the whole “fake it till you make it”.

Forcing our muscles to smile even if we don’t mean it actually release endorphins because of muscle memory. I interned at Mass Eye and Ear working as a Clinical Research Intern so yes I would say I know my stuff about this. My project was studying how patients with facial paralysis perceived emotions. Depression from inability to smile is a common and highly studied attribute to facial paralysis.

SO SMILE BECAUSE YOU CAN! I challenge you to post about 5 things that make you smile. It sounds like a waste of time but even thinking about what makes you happy will brighten your day!

Here is my list:

1⃣ Family & Friends (yes my lil yorkie Kobi counts here)

2⃣ Nature (including but not limited to traveling, animals, scenic views)

3⃣ Other people smiling (like that random person with a funny accent that just loves life and always wears a smile….you know the type or do I sound weird??)

4⃣ Being healthy (including feeling like I did something to become a better person than I was or doing something to give back to my body/mind)

5⃣ Compliments (aka making someone else smile and also giving back and also paying it forward)

    I loved this post as well. 🙂 I’m new to blogging and reading blogs but I’ve been on here for hours tonight reading like crazy! lol My 5 things…1. My family & friends of course. 2. Planting the 90 trees I just ordered. 3. Knowing I am retiring this year. 4. Finally getting my smile back through hard work, determination and a lot of surgery. 5. Knowing I will look normal again.

    I absolutely love this post. Considering I am under such stress with finishing uni work it’s good to be reminded to smile even for the simple fact that I am physically capable of doing so. Thanks for writing this! 🙂

    2. Photography (my dream job!)
    3. Fitness
    4. Writing/Blogging (I use to write some really embarrassing short novels in middle school! lol)
    5. Knowing I’ve done something to make someone else’s day just a little bit better/brighter
