I always see guys carrying around a gallon of water instead of water bottles. When I first started noticing this I was like what the heck, water won’t make you any more manly why are you carrying that around…are you thirsty!?
So I looked it up.
Who knew so much water was so important! Turns out that “the consensus in the bodybuilding community is that high water storage within muscles acts as an anabolic factor. This allows the muscles to maintain a positive nitrogen balance, which directly impacts muscle growth.” (bodybuilding.com) In plain english this means: the more water storage in your muscles, the better they function.
That doesn’t only mean the muscles you’re pumping at the gym. This means your organs too. With more water, your organs can perform their functions optimally meaning better digestion, absorption, and metabolic performance. Not to mention your brain, heart, lungs etc. Below I listed even more benefits of drinking water, as if the above wasn’t enough to persuade you of it’s importance.
- Relieves headaches (The most common reason for a headache is dehydration)
- Decreases likelihood of cramps and sprains
- Revives and replenishes skin to give a brighter, younger look
- Helps regulate body temperature
- Helps to flush out toxins and waste products
I think water often gets pushed aside in the health&wellness social media realm. I mean everyone can post pictures of their food porn on Instagram, but how appealing would some water porn be?…
Well, I’m going to test it out. I decided to challenge myself to a #gallonchallenge for 30 days and start doing what the boys do. I drink a lot of water, but I have NO idea if it amounts to a gallon a day. Nominate your friends on Instagram and use the hashtag to participate!
