Hmm do you HAVE to stretch? No. Similarly, you don’t HAVE to drink water everyday…but I highly recommend you do.
Wait what am I even trying to say here?…..YES PEOPLE, PLEASE STRETCH!
It’s hard for me to say this because I’m one of those people who used to hate stretching… alone. I danced all my life growing up so I was rarely forced to stretch alone. Once I stopped dancing, the only time I would really stretch is in a yoga class (again, never alone). Otherwise I was just moving around my muscles briefly to “warm” them up before exercising.
Once I started getting serious at the gym, I got serious about my stretching. Why?
Well it improves/ increases:
- stress relief
- muscle strength
- bone strength
- increases energy
AND lowers risk of injury.
So take some quality time to stretch after your workout. I’ve made it a goal of mine to get back all 3 of my splits (left, right, center) this summer so it will push me to stretch more every day. Join me in my journey to splits! Just 20 mins a day, and we should have them all within weeks (I hope)!
